Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation:

As we begin, focus your attention on the idea of a blessing? Bring all of your focus to this word as your breathing slowly begins to expand. Feel the gentle breath enter your body as you imagine this idea of a blessing. Allow your breath to go all the way down to your stomach. Count your breath out. As you breathe in count to 5 slowly, then gently pause for a moment, then allow the air in you to gently rush out. Each breath you take is a blessing. Each breath you take is a miracle. Gently allow each new breath to come into your lungs for 5 seconds, the rest in your belly, then escape harmlessly. As you continue breathing, you feel the tension leave your body. All the tension leaves you slowly. Its is as though it is as ice that is melting and flows out of you. If you mind ever wanders, bring it back to this idea of a blessing. You feel a blessing rushing in you with each breath of fresh air being pulled into your lungs. As you continue to breath, you feel a gentle contentment with your life in this moment. These breaths are cleansing you from the inside and allowing you to focus all your attention. As I begin to read this scripture keep breathing deeply. This message will continue to speak peace to your heart and show you the many ways which we will be blessed. Keep your heart and mind open as you hear this message from God found in His scripture, the Bible. Place all of your focus on the scripture, allowing God to send you a message. This scripture is the beginning of Jesus sermon on the mount.

Bible verse for meditation:

This scripture is in the gospel of Matthew 5:2-12

2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirsty for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Meditation on scripture / bible verse meditation:

Take another deep breath as you ponder what this scripture means.

What stuck out to you as you focused on the scripture?

The Sermon on the Mount and comprises Matthew 5-7. This first section is referred to as the Beatitudes Early texts of it did not have chapters and verses. As a result ancient readers would refer to a text by its first line. In this way the Sermon on the Mount was referred to as “Blessed are the poor.” As a reference to this, early Christians did not call themselves Christians but they called themselves “The Poor.” among other names.

When I read the sermon on the mount, I am impressed that these could refer to other people and to myself in the future. In my line of work as a chaplain I think of those that mourn as being other people who I am ministering to. On the other hand I strive to be a peacemaker.

How are these admonitions affecting you? Which are you latching onto? Take a deep breath and let this direction from Jesus, influence your heart.

Listen to these brief references. Poor, mourn, meek, hunger, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, persecuted. Which one of these speaks to you, either as you are, or as you would like to be? Hold this thought in your mind as we pray.

Meditation of Prayer:

Pray as directed by the Spirit.

Pray now regarding the beatitude that is resonating with you.

Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm:

I invite you to sit in silence and wait on the Lord.

Meditate and Visualize Positive Change in Your Life:

What insights did you gain during these moments?

What thing will change in your life after this moment?

Use you imagination to fully visualize what that change will look at. Image one very concrete change you will make in your life. What new action will you take. Visualize yourself now doing this new action.  Make it as vivid as possible with as much detail.

Visualize blessing someone else:

Now visualize someone or a group of people who need this message. Imagine what their face would look like as they receive this scripture in their hearts. Imagine how you can share it with them.

Print and use this scripture.

I release a new episode of this every Sunday morning at 1AM Mountain time in the US.
