ESV
35 While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
36 But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.”
37 And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

NABRE
35 While he was still speaking, people from the synagogue official’s house arrived and said, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?”
36 Disregarding the message that was reported, Jesus said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.”
37 He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.

What does this scripture mean to you?
Has it had a different effect this reading as compared to times past?
How does this scripture make you feel?

Continue breathing deeply as you ponder this meaning.

Meditation on scripture / bible verse meditation:

Here a Jewish leader named Jairus had requested Jesus heal his daughter. In this scripture the man is asked to overcome the bad news of hearing of his daughters death. Jesus ignored this news and talked directly to Jairus. Jesus knew he felt fear and doubt, not knowing what would happen now. Jesus proclaims something that is so applicable to each one of us. “Do not fear, Just Believe.” This can be a powerful message for each of us.

This week I was talking to 2 different people who were struggling with what they see as unanswered prayers. They wanted to be able to walk and were very unsettled that God had not answered their prayers to do this. It presents a difficult question. How can we keep faith, knowing that God can answer questions in whatever way he chooses? Ultimately His will is done. If we ask things of God that are not in accord with His will, we may feel disappointed.

A powerful purpose we can seek then is to find a way to reconcile our normal human feelings with what actually happens. Regardless of any other response we can see that fear is not a helpful feeling. Many people died when Jesus was alive who did not get healed. God’s plan for you may lead you to places you never thought you would be and you never thought you would get out of but in any case we need not fear.

Meditation of Prayer:

Pray as directed by the Spirit.
Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him.

Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm:
I invite you to sit in silence feeling being patient for your own faults and trials.

Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life:

Details:

Final Question: How can being honest with God about your failings help.?

Final Thought:
Despite whatever our expectations are or what our desires are we can embrace this message. We need not fear. We can let go of our fear and have faith that God’s will for us will provide the best option for our eternal benefit. We can trust our loving God to do what we most need. This may be exactly what we ask for or it may present new challenges. If we respond correctly, it will cause us to draw closer to God in the long run. Our goal then should be to align our will with God’s and then accept what his plan is for us.
